But can it be true?
The internet is fit to bursting with talk of a possible Emirates Stadium move for Spanish international David Villa part of a deal that would see Robin Van Persie move to the Nou Camp.
Chief among the twitter avalanche on the topic is below
But this is by no means the only reference on the subject indeed Spanish source Sport.es states that Barcelona are looking to sell Villa in order to fund a significant bid for the Arsenal man but a swap deal could be of interest to Arsene Wenger who has consistently been linked with the former Valencia man.
Back in 2009 Goal.com reported that Arsene Wenger was trailing the Spanish striker and in the summer of 2010 the Metro stated that the 30 year old goal machine turned down the Gunners before opting to join Barcelona.
David Villa’s two seasons at the Nou Camp have been marred by injury and average form but he has still managed 32 goals from 76 appearances and clinched a host of silverware in the process. The lethal finisher broke his tibia at the Club World Cup but is believed to be nearing a return to the game.
Though Arsenal have brought in Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud over the summer the loss of Robin Van Persie will be a painful blow to the North London club and the capture of an experienced campaigner like Villa could well help add a cutting edge to the Gunners strike-force.
