Belgian set to complete White Hart Lane move.
Ajax accept Vertonghen is ‘gone’
Jan Vertonghen: Expected to be plying his trade in the Premier League next season
Ajax coach Frank de Boer admits Jan Vertonghen’s head is already in London, as he closes on a summer transfer to Tottenham Hotspur.
De Boer admits Vertonghen is now waiting on the ‘green light’ to make a move to the Premier League.
Taking that into account, he left the 25-year-old out of his squad for a pre-season exhibition game against FC Emmen.
“John has his head in London, so we sent him home,” De Boer told Telesport.
“He is only waiting on a few minor details before he gets the green light.”

25 year old Ajax captain Jan Vertonghen has been ‘on the verge’ of a move to White Hart Lane for the best part of three months and it seems that the long wait may soon be over. It appears that the latest in a serious of obstacles to the move has been removed and the Belgian is set to finally complete his move to Tottenham for a fee said to be in the region of £8.5m.
Andre Villas-Boas could well do with defensive reinforcements having inherited a back-line with more than a few problems. Ledley King has not been offered a new deal and William Gallas and Michael Dawson continue to struggle with constant injury concerns.
Harry Redknapp’s dismissal had seemingly put a move for Vertonghen on the back burner and then issues relating to bonuses owed to the Ajax man also slowed down the progress of talks.
Jan Vertonghen helped his Amsterdam side to back to back titles in the past two Eredivisie seasons and the experienced determined talent is the latest in a ever growing line of Belgians plying their trade in the English top tier.
Villas-Boas may also have use for Vertonghen in other areas as the adaptable talent is also very effective in a defensive midfield role.
