Ivory Coast attacker makes move to Ligue 1 side.
Salomon Kalou will hope to re-ignite a career that was stagnating on the Chelsea bench having signed a four year contract with Ligue 1 side Lille. The Ivory Coast international spent years trying to convince a succession of Blues managers of his worth and when his latest contract ran down the Stamford Bridge side clearly didn’t try all that hard to retain the services of the 26 year old and a move to France may be just what the forward needs.
Lille could well do with a new signing or two as over the past two seasons boss Rudi Garcia has lost a number of his top performers; Eden Hazard, Yohan Cabaye, Gervinho and Moussa Sow to name just four. The Stade Metropole side appears to have opted to not make their temporary move for Liverpool midfielder Joe Cole a permanent one but do have their eyes on other new additions.
Kalou was probably swayed by the offer of regular first team football as well as the chance to compete in the Champions League next term.
The former Feyenoord man made 244 appearances during his six year spell at Chelsea, albeit a huge chunk of those coming from the bench, netting 60 goals in the process.
