Blues to bid for Brazilian.
Chelsea have joined Tottenham Hotspur in the race to sign Internacional starlet Oscar.
The 20-year-old attacking midfielder is wanted, along with teammate Leandro Damiao, by new Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas who believes the youngster could help fill the void left by Luka Modric’s imminent departure to Real Madrid.
The Potuguese is thought to be ready to pay in excess of £20 million for Oscar, who already has six caps for Brazil and scored a hattrick in last year’s Under-20 World Cup Final against Portugal.
But Chelsea have also entered the race for the playmaker after being told by Tottenham that Modric has no chance of moving across London to the Blues, reports the London Evening Standard.
The European Champions have reportedly already met with Internacional president Giovanni Luigi and lodged a £15.8m bid for Oscar.
Although that is unlikely to be enough to seal a deal for the star, who can also play on the right wing, the news will come as a blow to Spurs.
The north London club do hold one ace however, as their strategic partnership with Internacional allows them first refusal on all of the Porto Alegre outfit’s players as long as they match the bids made by other clubs.
Spurs believe Oscar could challenge Aaron Lennon for a spot in the first team next season but want Joao Moutinho to be Modric’s like-for-like replacement.
