United eye Atletico star.
Manchester United are interested in a surprise move for Atletico Madrid striker Radamel Falcao.
Red Devils manager Sir Alex Ferguson regards Falcao as one of the finest strikers in Europe and is willing to offer cash plus contract rebel Nani in order to seal the deal, reports Spanish newspaper AS.
Falcao enjoyed a stunning season in the Spanish capital, scoring 24 times in La Liga and 9 times in a victorious Europa League campaign, including two special strikes in the Final.
The Colombian is valued in excess of £40 million by the Spaniards but Ferguson may be able to offset some of the cost by including Portuguese winger Nani, who is stalling on signing a new deal at Old Trafford.
Falcao, 26, is understood to be happy at Atletico but the club have next to no chance of winning the La Liga title, with Real Madrid and Barcelona totally dominant in Spain.
The big striker, who is excellent in the air as well as with both feet, may consider a move to the Premier League if United appear to match his ambition.
United are reportedly in the market for a new forward and have been linked with Polish striker Robert Lewandowski.
