Inter Milan midfielder Wesley Sneijder is being linked with Arsenal.

Gazzetta dello Sport says Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger will move for Sneijder once he sells Robin van Persie.

The Dutch ace came close to joining Manchester United last summer and still has hopes of moving to England.

It’s suggested a bid of £20 million from the Gunners will be enough for Inter to sell Sneijder, who is not a nailed on fixture in coach Andrea Stramaccioni’s system.

It would perhaps be ironic that the moment Arsenal decide to make a significant move for an established star, such as Inter Milan playmaker Wesley Sneijder, occurred once Robin Van Persie left given that the Gunners skipper is apparently exasperated by the manner in which the North London club is run in regards to incoming transfer additions.

The Nerazzurri have experienced something of a lean patch in recent seasons, not helped by the number of manager’s who have been axed in quick succession and there does appear to be something of a clear-out being conducted by the San Siro side.

Lucio and Diego Forlan have already left and Chelsea are apparently closing in on full-back Maicon, so could Sneijder be the next to leave the Italian giants?

The 28 year old has been consistently linked with a move away from Inter Milan and given that Andrea Stramaccioni’s side do not have Champions League football to offer this coming season a move does appear all the more likely.

Though Arsenal do appear to have their fair share of attack minded central midfielders, such as Mikel Arteta, Jack Wilshere and Tomas Rosicky to name just three, it’s clear that Sneijder is the quality of player that most, if not all, of Europe’s elite would like to get their hands on.

Sneijder’s first season at the Italian club was a roaring success with Jose Mourinho’s side clinching a domestic double and a Champions League triumph. However the last two campaigns have been fairly woeful and last season’s sixth place finish was the worst in over a decade so a move to the Premier League may well appeal to the former Ajax and Real Madrid man.
