Former Royal makes return to the Madejski Stadium.
Nicky Shorey has rejoined Reading on a one-year deal.
The 31-year-old was released by West Brom at the end of last season and has now been added to Brian McDermott’s squad as they prepare for life in the Barclays Premier League, having won the npower Championship title last season.

Royals boss Brian McDermott was probably more than aware that the squad that achieved promotion to the Premier League was probably not strong enough to retain a spot in the top tier and the Reading manager has since set about improving it in a most economically wise fashion.
Thus far the 51 year old has snapped up Garath McCleary, Pavel Pogrebnyak and Danny Guthrie, all one free transfers and the former Arsenal man has once again conducted a good bit of business.
Nicky Shorey spent seven successful seasons at the Berkshire club before moving to Aston Villa but that move didn’t really work for the former Leyton Orient man and loan spells at Nottingham Forest and Fulham followed before the full-back was on his way to West Brom.
The Baggies opted to not renew the 31 year old’s contract and a return to Reading may well help to get Shorey’s career back on track.
The Romford born wide-man made 296 appearances for Reading in his previous spell.
