‘Big’ offer will secure pass-master, says Laudrup.
Liverpool want to sign Welsh schemer Joe Allen despite agreeing to a year-long transfer embargo with his club Swansea City.
The Anfield outfit will test City’s resolve with a £10 million bid for Allen in the next few days after Swans boss Michael Laudrup admitted that the club would consider a ‘big’ offer for the 22-year-old.
New Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is a huge admirer of Allen, who he managed at the Liberty Stadium, and is desperate to be reunited with the diminutive playmaker, in spite of an agreement not to bid for any Swansea players for a year.
Laudrup, Rogers’ successor in south Wales, hinted last week that the embargo may not be set in stone, confirming that Allen had his price but that Liverpool were yet to be in touch.
“I haven’t heard anything from Liverpool, but it’s part of football to accept that sometimes people leave when an offer is too big. You have to deal with it, talk to the player and see what he wants,” said the Dane.
Allen was Europe’s sixth most successful passer last season with 90.3 per cent accuracy – just two per cent behind Xavi and one per cent behind Sergio Busquets and Philip Lahm.
Craig Bellamy has urged Rodgers to bring his compatriot to Merseyside, describing him as a ‘special’ player who ‘fits Liverpool to a tee’.
Northern Irish tactician Rodgers has so far targeted players he has previously worked with, including midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson – who chose to join Tottenham instead – and striker Fabio Borini who completed his move to Anfield yesterday.
