St James’ Park side keen on Spanish attacker.
Newcastle interested in Santon-Bojan swap deal
The former Barcelona forward did not have the best of debut seasons at Roma and could be on his way to the Magpies, with the full-back heading in the opposite direction
Newcastle United are keen on bringing in Roma forward Bojan Krkic this summer, and are prepared to sacrifice Davide Santon in order to push through a deal, Goal.com understands.
The 21-year-old attacker struggled to adapt during his first season at the Stadio Olimpico, having arrived on a two-year contract from Barcelona in July 2011, leading to suggestions new coach Zdenek Zeman is looking to move him on.
And the Magpies have stepped forward as potential suitors, but any agreement would still allow the Blaugrana to exercise their option of bringing him back to Camp Nou at the end of the upcoming campaign.
The amount of speculation relating to Newcastle United’s pursuit of a new striker would leave some wondering if Alan Pardew was resigned to losing either Demba Ba or Papiss Cisse, despite the fact that both players have stated their intention to stay at St James’ Park.
Now this source believes that the Magpies are keen on Roma striker Bojan Krkic, so much so that they are willing to offer Italian full-back Davide Santon in exchange for the former Barcelona man.
The 21 year old pint sized striker netted seven goals last term and if Roma wish to keep the player at the Stadio Olimpico past the upcoming campaign they would have to complete an extra payment of around £10m to Barcelona so this could lead the Serie A side to consider offers for his services.
Newcastle United had to rely heavily on Cisse and Ba last term, with the pair netting 29 of the club’s 56 Premier League goals last term. Back-up options such as Shola Ameobi failed to offer much in the way of support and Pardew has already offloaded Peter Lovenkrands and Leon Best this summer.
