Whilst Man United’s opening bid may not meet the Toffees valuation it does appear that the Merseyside club is at least open to discussing the possible sale of the former Wigan Athletic man.
Leighton Baines has been linked with a move to Man United for quite some time but it does appear that negotiations may well have started between the two clubs and the noises coming out of Goodison Park appear ominous and given the financial problems the Toffees are beset by a sale of a player or two this summer could be on the cards for David Moyes.
The 27 year old left back may well be brought in to keep Patrice Evra on his toes after the Frenchman exhibited some fairly average form last term.
Baines moves to Everton from Wigan for a fee of £6m in July 2007 and the Kirkby born defender has been a virtual ever present at left-back notching up 202 appearances for the club and scoring 15 goals in the process.
