London duo keen on youngster.
Tottenham Hotspur are still in the running to sign Brazilian youngster Oscar despite the player appearing on the verge of a move to Chelsea, it has emerged.
The Daily Mail reported last week that the 20-year-old Internacional playmaker had agreed a £25 million switch to Stamford Bridge, with Oscar’s agent seeming to confirm the news soon after.
But it is understood that although Chelsea remain in pole position for Oscar, Spurs are also interested in signing the star.
Tottenham, however, cannot benefit from their strategic partnership with the Brazilian club because it only entitles them to first refusal on academy players and Oscar joined the Porto Alegre club in 2010.
The former Sao Paulo playmaker caught the eye of the world last year when he scored a hattrick in the under-20 World Cup Final against Portugal. The youngster has since made six full appearances for the Brazilian senior team and is in the country’s Olympic squad for the London Games.
Spurs believe that Oscar can help to plug the gap left by Luka Modric’s imminent departure to Real Madrid and it is understood that their pursuit of the Brazilian will not affect their deal for Joao Moutinho.
Inter Milan have also expressed an interest in Oscar, who play wide right or through the middle, but Chelsea remain confident of securing a £25 million deal as their major summer rebuilding operation continues apace.
