Gunners linked with move to replace Dutchman with Etihad Stadium forward.
Ray Parlour has claimed Arsenal could swap Robin Van Persie for Edin Dzeko in order to find a ready-made replacement for their wantaway captain.
Roberto Mancini is known to be keen on adding the Dutch striker to his Manchester City squad this summer but Arsenal are not keen to sell to a Premier League rival.
However Parlour, who insists the Gunners should cash in on Van Persie now rather than let him leave for free next summer, reckons some kind of swap deal could take place.
“I don’t know what Arsenal will look at, but if [Van Persie] does want to go to Manchester City then maybe they could look at a swap deal with someone like Dzeko and bring him in,” Parlour told talkSPORT.
“His wages might be a problem. I don’t know what kind of wages Dzeko is on at Manchester City and Arsenal have always had that pay structure that they want to keep to and maybe they have to change that.
“Times are moving on and if you want the best players they go for the best money.”
This may not be a bad suggestion by the former Arsenal midfielder.
Edin Dzeko, after an average first six months at the club, did get into gear last term and scored goals at will, 14 in 16 Premier League starts plus a large number of appearances from the bench. There are those who suggested that the powerfully built lanky forward was not so good at registering against clubs from the top half of the table however the former Wolfsburg man did manage four against Tottenham, a brace against Man United.
Perhaps the inclusion of Dzeko into any offer for Robin Van Persie will entice Arsene Wenger into once again selling to Man City. The Gunners boss was strongly linked with a move for the 6ft 4in forward when he was impressing many in the Bundesliga.
Wenger’s chances of keeping Van Persie at the North London club have taken a battering following the Dutch goal machine’s public statement, which made it clear the 28 year old had no intention of signing a new Arsenal contract.
Wenger has brought in Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud but may well look to sell a host of average to poor attacking options including Carlos Vela, Nicklas Bendtner, Marouane Chamakh and Park Chu-Young, therefore leaving more than enough room for another proven marksman.
