Villa boss Lambert close to signing Feyenoord and Holland defender Vlaar

The 27-year-old was part of the Dutch team at Euro 2012 and has been allowed to leave Feyenoord should a suitable proposal be made.

Former Norwich City boss Paul Lambert has had a fairly quiet start to life at Villa Park, having brought in Eredivisie pair Brett Holman and Karim El Ahmadi and Sheffield United youngster Matt Lowton and now the Aston Villa boss looks to bring in another player from the Dutch top tier.
Ron Vlaar is the experienced captain of Feyenoord and a player known for his determined performances at the heart of the De Kuip defence. The 27 year old has completed seven seasons at the Rotterdam side but may well be tempted by a move to the Premier League.
Some reports state that the Dutch international, who has nine national team caps and was part of Bert Van Marwijk’s Euro 2012 squad, is already in the Midlands holding talks about completing his move to Aston Villa, a move that could greatly help to strengthen the club’s defence.
