Liverpool ready to pounce on £15m Walcott but face competition from Chelsea
Liverpool are ready to rival Chelsea in the hunt for Arsenal winger Theo Walcott.
Walcott has just a year to run on his contract with the Gunners and could follow Robin van Persie’s lead by seeking a move away from the Emirates Stadium if the club does not boost his wages to £100,000 per week.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger wants to keep hold of Walcott, who was man of the match for England against Sweden at Euro 2012, but some of the club’s board are ready to cash in.
Reds boss Brendan Rodgers is pondering a £15m move and could use money from any sale of Andy Carroll to pay for the deal.

Liverpool could well do with alternative options in their attack, especially on the flanks as neither Jordan Henderson or Stewart Downing impressed in their first campaigns at the Anfield club. Arsene Wenger is not all that keen on meeting Theo Walcott’s wage demands and thus could be willing to accept offers for the England international this summer to avoid losing the former Southampton man on a free transfer in a year’s time.
Whereas Arsenal are doing all they can to prevent Robin Van Persie from forcing a Gunners exit, Wenger may not be so reticent to the idea of cashing in on Walcott, who has on the whole failed to impress on a regular basis during his time at the Emirates Stadium.
Walcott has made over 200 appearances for the North London club since his move from St Mary’s in January 2006.
Arsene Wenger has a number of other possible options to fill Arsenal’s wide attacking spots, including impressive youngsters Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Ryo Miyaichi (who spent last time out on loan at Bolton last season) and the more experienced Gervinho and perhaps even Andrei Arshavin, if indeed the Russian does not secure a move away from the club this summer.
