Rivals to battle it out for striker.
London rivals Chelsea and Arsenal are preparing to go head-t0-head for Newcastle striker Demba Ba.
The Senegalese star has a well-publicised release clause of just £7 million and both Arsenal and Chelsea are considering activating it before the end of this month.
Former West Ham striker Ba impressed last season, scoring sixteen times in the league and forming a lethal partnership with compatriot Papiss Cisse.
But the 27-year-old is reportedly unsettled on Tyneside and wants reassurances from Alan Pardew that he will part of his first choice strike force next season.
Ba was often played out of position on the wing last campaign and his status at the club is under further threat as Newcastle seek to complete a loan deal for former star Andy Carroll.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has long admired Ba and is facing the prospect of losing his own key striker, Robin van Persie, this summer.
Wenger reportedly watched Ba in action in last night’s friendly with the tactician’s former club Monaco, in which the Senegal international scored.
Chelsea meanwhile have seen Didier Drogba leave the club and believe Ba’s versatility would be useful as the club look to mount a serious title challenge next season.
Tottenham were interested in the Senegalese but have learnt that Ba is uninsurable due to a persistent knee problem.
