Right-back in Madjeski move.
Reading are closing in on the signing of Nottingham Forest full-back Chris Gunter, according to reports.
The newly-promoted club have agreed a fee thought to be in the region of £2 million for the 22-year-old. Forest are without a manager following the sacking of Steve Cotterill last week but the club’s new owners have sanctioned the deal after Gunter expressed his desire to play in the Premier League.
The Welsh international started his career at Cardiff but moved to Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur aged 18. After just five appearances for the Londoners, then boss Harry Redknapp allowed Gunter to join Forest, initially on loan.
Despite playing in the Championship since 2009, Gunter is Wales’ first choice right-back and already has 37 caps for Chris Coleman’s men.
Royals boss Brian McDermott has shown his intent to sign a right-back, having enquired about the availability of Kyle Naughton, Luke Young and Southampton-bound Nathaniel Clyne.
Reading also completed a deal for Watford skipper Adrian Mariappa today.
