Old Trafford forward wants out.
AC Milan could offer unsettled Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov a way out of Old Trafford, according to the player’s agent.
The Bulgarian, who scored nine goals in 21 outings last season, is expected to leave Old Trafford this summer after admitting he is unlikely to figure much in Sir Alex Ferguson’s plans next season.
The 31-year-old is reportedly available for a fee of £5m, and his representative Emil Dantchev believes the forward is heading for Serie A – with the San Siro his preferred destination.
“He may leave Manchester United at any time,” he said. “His most likely destination is Italy, he’s always loved Italian football.
“I know that Milan and Juventus are looking for a striker. I can say that they are two big clubs.
“I cannot say much but I do say that Berbatov likes Milan and looks good in red and black.”
Could Dimitar Berbatov’s agent be any more blatant? If you read carefully there is actually no mention of AC Milan’s interest in the 31 year old forward but in many ways the Bulgarian could be a useful, and cost effective replacement for outgoing Swede Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who is on his way to PSG.
The Man United has made it abundantly clear he wants to leave Old Trafford and now his possible exit hinges on two things. 1) Whether Sir Alex Ferguson wishes to sell the experienced forward, who does of course offer very able back-up to his squad. 2) Whether any interested party will meet the club’s asking price for the former Tottenham man.
Berbatov has scored 27 goals in his last 44 Premier League appearances so is actually in the goal-scoring form of his career and given that AC Milan owner Silvio Berlusconi is clearly looking to cut costs at the San Siro side, the possibility of bringing in a replacement for Ibrahimovic for a fee of around just £5m may be too good to turn down.
