Goodison Park return on the cards for White Hart Lane bit-part player.
Everton close to signing £5m Pienaar back from Tottenham, Moyes reveals
David Moyes revealed he is ‘much closer’ to bringing Steven Pienaar to Everton on a permanent basis.
Chairman Bill Kenwright has reportedly been locked in talks with Tottenham over a £5million transfer deal for the South Africa playmaker, who spent the second half of last season on loan back at Goodison Park.
After a 1-1 draw with Motherwell in Stevie Hammell’s testimonial at Fir Park, where Well midfielder Nicky Law levelled a first-half header from Shane Duffy, Goodison boss Moyes said: ‘I think we are much closer to Pienaar and hopefully in time I will have something, but I don’t quite have it yet.’

One wonders just why Harry Redknapp bought Steven Pienaar in the first place as he appeared to have no intention of playing the South African unless he absolutely had to. Over the course of 18 months, of which a portion was spent back on loan at Goodison Park, the talented attacking midfielder has made just five Premier League starts and it seems that Andre Villas-Boas is ready to allow the 30 year old to complete a long awaited move back to Everton.
Given that Tottenham paid £3m for Pienaar in January 2011, a return of £5m is not a bad bit of business and one can expect the former Ajax man to be a Toffees man soon enough.
David Moyes will be happy to bring Pienaar back to Merseyside, where the pint sized midfielder was a very able performer, notching up 156 appearances for Everton in two spells, scoring 16 goals in the process.
