Defender staying at Feyenoord.
Netherlands international Ron Vlaar says his transfer to Aston Villa is ‘off for now’ and the defender is planning to focus on his current club Feyenoord.
Vlaar travelled to the Midlands last week to discuss a possible transfer with Villa boss Paul Lambert, later confirming that it would be ‘a dream come true’ to join the Premier League outfit.
But Feyenoord have not received any further contact from Villa and boss Ronal Koeman has set a deadline of Monday for Lambert and the Villa Park club to make a decision over the 27-year-old centre-half.
With no approach in sight, Vlaar is now resigned to staying in Holland for the time being.
“Feyenoord is in my heart and I have been through a lot here,” Vlaar told RTV Rijnmond.
“I think the chance I will move to Aston Villa is not so big anymore.
“I don’t want to be kept on a leash, so a transfer is off for now.”
Vlaar has been with Feyenoord since signing from AZ in 2006. He has 9 caps for the Netherlands but was not included in either the 2010 World Cup squad or the 23 for Euro 2012.
