Bavarians enter race for Dutchman.
Bayern Munich have entered the race for Manchester City midfielder Nigel de Jong.
The Dutchman is set to leave the Etihad this summer after becoming frustrated at a lack of first-team opportunities for the Premier League Champions.
De Jong joined City from Hamburg in January 2009 and quickly became an important player for then manager Mark Hughes.
But the arrival of Gareth Barry and Yaya Toure at the club has seen the Dutch international marginalised and he managed just 14 League appearances last season.
The Citizens are set to cash in on de Jong, who is in the final year of his contract, this summer.
Italian rivals AC and Inter Milan are reportedly interested in signing the enforcer but Bayern have now entered the race, according to De Telegraaf.
The Champions League finalists are looking for midfielder reinforcements and have been linked with Athletic Bilbao star Javi Martinez and Lars Bender already this summer.
City would be happy to let De Jong leave the club for around £6 million and have themselves been linked with Martinez and Roma star Daniele De Rossi as potential replacements.
