Blues at ‘advanced’ stage in negotiations but deal not yet done.
Chelsea are set to beat rivals Tottenham to the signature of Brazilian Olympic star Oscar.
The Internacional youngster is hot property, with the London duo both interested in signing the £25 million-rated playmaker, who currently plays for Brazilian club Internacional.
But it is the Blues who are set to win the race for the 20-year-old, after Inter’s president Giovanni Luigi confirmed the Porto Alegre club were at an advance stage of negotiations with the European Champions.
“The situation is very advanced, but not finalised yet,” said Luigi, according to London 24.
“Oscar has to get his work permit. He needs to have a certain amount of caps to play in England, but I don’t believe that will be a problem.”
Oscar, who can play centrally or wide right, signed for Inter in 2010 from Sao Paulo and his former club will gain a cut of any transfer fee.
“I have also reached an agreement with Sao Paulo over their part,” Luigi added. “It’s Chelsea that will pay that, not Internacional.”
Because Oscar is not one of Inter’s homegrown players, Spurs are not entitled to first-option on the youngster as part of their strategic partnership with the Brazilians.
