Sir Alex eyes River Plate youngster after failing in bid for Lucas.
Manchester United will turn their attentions to River Plate midfielder Ezequiel Cirigliano after missing out on Brazilian wonderkid Lucas Moura, reports the Daily Mirror.
United boss Sir Alex Ferguson admitted yesterday that he was keen to sign Sao Paulo’s Lucas, currently in the UK with the Brazil squad ahead of the London Olympic Games.
But Sao Paulo are reportedly demanding in excess of £30 million for the speedy 19-year-old, with Ferguson unwilling to offer more than £26 million for the starlet.
The Scot will instead turn his attentions to Cirigliano, who is available for a mere £4 million.
The 20-year-old central midfielder has represented Argentina at youth level and shone as River Plate battled back from their surprise relegation to the second tier.
The box-to-box youngster has caught the eye with his ability to break-up play and distribute the ball wisely.
United are well stocked in Lucas’ position – right wing – but are in need of central reinforcements, with Darren Fletcher showing no signs of recovering from illness and ageing stalwarts Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes still mainstays in the Red Devils’ team.
Manchester City and PSG are both said to be interested in taking Cirigliano on trial and are monitoring the situation.
