Russian outfit have triggered Ba’s release clause, according to reports.
Newcastle striker Demba Ba could be set for a surprise move to Russia after Rubin Kazan reportedly trigged his £7 million release clause.
The Senegalese striker is also wanted by Liverpool and, ironically, his exit will pave the way for the Reds forward Andy Carroll to return to St James’ Park.
The Russian outfit now have until July 31, when Ba’s release clause expires, to finalise personal terms with the former West Ham striker, reports the Daily Mail.
Ba was an instant hit in Toon after joining on a free transfer from the Hammers, scoring 16 Premier League goals last season and impressing, before leaving for the African Cup of Nations in January.
The 27-year-old struggled to find the net on his return and was reportedly unhappy at being forced to play on the wing to accommodate new signing and compatriot Papiss Cisse.
The ex-Hoffenheim striker’s place is under further threat from the Tynesiders well-publicised interest in re-signing Carroll and he may jump at the chance to link-up with former Toon star Obafemi Martins in Russia.
Liverpool are believed to also hold an interest in Ba but will not entertain a player plus cash deal for Carroll. The Anfield club are demanding at least £20 million for the Geordie powerhouse, who they signed for £35 million 18 months ago.
