Winger tells advisors to finalise Arsenal switch.
Santi Cazorla has told his advisors to sort out a switch to Arsenal after Gunners boss Arsene Wenger targeted the stylish winger.
Cazorla is desperate to league Malaga this summer after a bitter pay dispute with the La Liga club and both Arsenal and Tottenham have expressed an interest in his services, reports the Daily Mirror.
The Gunners appear to be in pole position for his signature however, and will use the cash from Robin van Persie’s sale to fund a £16 million deal.
The 27-year-old wide-man was part of Spain’s Euro 2008 and Euro 2012 winning squads and has 45 caps for the national team.
Cazorla only joined Malaga last summer in an £18 million deal from Villareal but is desperate to leave and join Arsenal, with the Spanish club in the midst of a bizarre financial meltdown.
The Spaniard is one of several players owed wages and Malaga could face punishment from the Spanish Football Association if they do not pay a hefty tax bill before 31 July.
Wenger is expected to formally bid for Cazorla as soon as he receives assurances that one of van Persie’s suitors can meet the Dutchman’s £20 million asking price.
Cazorla is able to play on the wings or behind the a striker and has often deputised for Xavi for Spain.
Wenger reportedly had Cazorla earmarked as a replacement for Cesc Fabregas last summer before he joined Malaga.
