Gunners eye holding midfielder – but not Yann M’Vila.
Arsenal are preparing a bid for Rennes defensive midfielder Vincent Pajot – the teammate of suspected target Yann M’Vila.
The Gunners have been strongly linked with M’Vila all summer but boss Arsene Wenger reportedly pulled the plug on a move for the 22-year-old after he had a bust-up with French international teammates at Euro 2012.
It has now emerged that Wenger is ready to move for fellow Rennes youngster Vincent Pajot.
The 21-year-old came through the ranks at the Ligue 1 club but has struggled to break into the first team faced with competition from his more illustrious compatriot.
But the diminutive midfielder impressed in his 15 starts last campaign and is versatile enough to play anywhere across the midfield. Pajot is a regular for the French under-21 side and has been widely tipped to have a big season for Rennes.
Wenger confirmed this week that he is not looking to strengthen the centre of the park – barring injuries – but will regard Pajot as a talented future prospect.
The legendary tactician is ready to bid £5 million in order to land the youngster, with the news likely to be a bitter blow for M’Vila who still is thought to be interested in joining the Gunners.
