Cavani’s agent hints at Premier League switch after striker wife flees to UK.
The agent of Napoli striker Edinson Cavani has admitted that the striker’s wife is unhappy in Naples, leading to speculation that Chelsea could move for the powerful hit-man.
The Uruguay forward is currently in Manchester, preparing for his country’s opening match of the Olympics against the UAE on Thursday.
And he has unexpectedly been joined by his wife after she fled to the UK following an attack by two men in the Italian city, reports the Daily Mirror.
The latest incident, which saw Mrs Cavani mugged and roughed up on a short walk to her car, follows a burglary in the couple’s home, while Napoli team-mate Marek Hamsik’s wife was car-jacked last season.
Cavani’s agent Caludio Anellucci has admitted the violence is all too frequent, prompting speculation that the Chelsea target will consider a move to the Premier League.
“It is not a good moment, but they are trying to get over it,” said Anellucci. “She has left Naples to join Cavani. It is difficult to get used to the idea that these sort of things can happen to you.
“It is true that incidents of this type can happen to anybody, but the truth is they happen too often.”
Napoli have already sold Cavani’s former strike-partner Ezequiel Lavezzi to PSG for £25 million and have insisted that the Uruguayan is not for sale.
Serie A Champions Juventus have also been linked with 25-year-old but Napoli owner Aurelio De Laurentiis said: “Cavani is not for sale, and I’ve never had any contact from Juventus.
“But if I get an offer from Torino, or anywhere else, of 100m Euros (£78million)…”
Cavani has scored 59 goals in 86 appearances for the Italian side.
