De Bruyne to join Bundesliga outfit for one-year.
Chelsea are set to send promising winger Kevin de Bruyne on loan to Werder Bremen for the coming season, the Bundesliga club have revealed.
The 21-year-old joined Chelsea in January from Genk but was immediately loaned back to the Belgians for the remainder of the season.
De Bruyne was understood to be keen for the chance to impress at Stamford Bridge but the arrivals of Eden Hazard, Marko Marin and Oscar this summer mean that the Belgian international is unlikely to see much first team action.
Bremen believe they are in pole position to land de Bruyne as they look to replace Marin.
Sporting director Klaus Aloffs told Kicker that he expects a deal to be completed imminently.
“Things are looking good, but it’s not a done deal yet. We hope to wrap up the transfer next week when Chelsea are back from their pre-season trip in the USA,” confirmed Aloffs.
De Bruyne has made 92 appearances for Genk since 2008, scoring 17 times.
