Marseilles admit youngster could be sold.
Chelsea are preparing to step up their interest in full-back Cesar Azpilicueta after Marseilles admitted they may cash in on the youngster.
The 22-year-old is currently in the UK with the Spanish Olympic football team and it is understood that Chelsea are hoping of wrapping up a deal before the end of the Games.
The Blues are desperate for reinforcements at right-back, after releasing Jose Bosingwa last month. Boss Roberto Di Matteo has also considered Internazionale’s Maicon but believes Azpilicueta is better value for money than the 31-year-old Brazilian.
Marseille’s sporting director has admitted that he may be prepared to sell the £7 million-rated youngster in order to raise much needed funds.
“Everybody has to sell before buying,” he said, reports the Daily Mail.
“In effect, it could either be (Stephane) M’Bia and Azpi. But for now, nothing has changed.”
Azpilicueta is yet to win a senior cap for Spain but is already vastly experienced for his tender years. He made over 100 appearances for Osasuna before joining the Ligue 1 club in 2010, where he has gone on to play 45 times in the league, scoring once.
