Liberty Stadium man on St James’ Park radar.

Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew has been looking to bring in defensive reinforcements for much of the summer, with moves for FC Twente’s Douglas and Lille’s Mathieu Debuchy being long running, now the Magpies manager is looking to bring in Welsh centre back Ashley Williams.
Such a move makes a great deal of sense given that currently the St James’ Park side has three senior options to fill the two centre back roles with Fabricio Colocini, Michael Williamson and Steven Taylor being his current complement.
Williams had a fine season last term and is perhaps open to a move to the North-East having seen Brendan Rodgers leave the Liberty Stadium. The 27 year old has risen from League One to the top tier with Swansea City, notching up 190 appearances over four and a half seasons and has become a crucial player for the Welsh side, a player new boss Michael Laudrup will surely look to keep hold of.
