QPR to Launch Summer Moves for Arsenal & Tottenham Pair

QPR boss Mark Hughes has already done a great deal of business during the current transfer window but apparently the Welshman still have a target or two he wishes to pursue as he looks to further improve his Loftus Road squad.

Hughes has been offered significant financial backing from Super Hoops co-owner Tony Fernandes and will look to make tempting bids for Arsenal winger Andrei Arshavin and Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe, both of whom have struggled to secure regular first team football at their respective North London clubs.

Russian international Arshavin has been linked with a permanent return to Zenit St Petersburg, who he helped to a domestic title last term during his loan spell back at his former club, but the 31 year old is apparently keen to remain in England. With his wife expecting their third child it would appear that the Arsenal winger is settled in the country and therefore a short move across London may well appeal to the Gunners man.

Arsene Wenger is clearly looking to offload Arshavin having not taken the wide-man on the club’s Asian tour this summer and there is also reported interest from Fulham though a move to an ambitious QPR side may be more appealing to the Arsenal man.

QPR manager Hughes is also looking to further improve his striking options. Though he has a fair number of forwards at the club there is speculation Jay Bothroyd, DJ Campbell and Rob Hulse are set to leave the club and arguably Jermain Defoe is superior to the others that would remain at Loftus Road.

The Tottenham man was something of a bit-part player at White Hart Lane last season and with Andre Villas-Boas looking to bring in Emmanuel Adebayor in on a permanent basis following his successful loan spell it would appear that Defoe could once again struggle to make it into the club’s starting eleven.

Defoe is a proven Premier League goalscorer and a player who may well have a point to prove and a move to QPR could well tempt the 29 year old.
