Portuguese stopper left in Spain but Sahin and Kaka travel.Tottenham have been offered hope in their pursuit of Real Madrid defender Ricardo Carvalho after the veteran was left out of Los Blancos’ pre-season tour of the US.
New Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas is keen to sign the veteran centre-half, who he worked with during Carvalho’s eight years in the Premier League with Chelsea, , reports the Daily Mail.
Villas-Boas, 34, is the same age as his compatriot and believes Carvalho can act as a link between manager and dressing room, as well as providing an experienced head at the back.
Spurs have plenty of cover at centre-half but have lost Ledley King to retirement and Ryan Nelsen to QPR this summer, while the ageing William Gallas is also expected to depart.
Carvalho’s omission from Real’s trip is the clearest indication yet that the former Porto man is not part of Jose Mourinho’s plans at the Bernebeu and could encourage Spurs to table a bid.
Real were hopeful of including Carvalho in their deal to sign Croatian schemer Luka Modric but Spurs have indicated that the deals must be kept seperate and are holding out for nearly £40 million for Modric.
Both Kaka and Nuri Sahin were, however, included in Real’s touring party. Brazilian Kaka was left out of the the La Liga Champions’ first friendly of the summer, with reports linking him with a move back to AC Milan.
Sahin is a target for Arsenal and is expected to complete a season-lon loan move to the Gunners in the next week.
