American will not be involved in Swiss training camp.
Liverpool target Clint Dempsey will not be involved in Fulham’s pre-season training camp in Switzerland this week, reports the BBC.
The 29-year-old is a target for Liverpool and reportedly wants to join the Anfield outfit.
His omission is likely to prompt speculation that a deal between the clubs is close but it is understood that Dempsey did not ask to be omitted but, after talks with boss Martin Jol, it was agreed he should remain in London.
Fulham have suggested that Dempsey’s lack of match fitness is the reason he has been left at home and the forward will be joined in the youth team by new signing Hugo Rodallega.
Liverpool have made no secret of their admiration for the American forward, who has scored 30 league goals in two seasons for the mid-table Cottagers.
The Reds’ US owners shamed themselves earlier this month by mistakenly announcing Dempsey’s signing of their website – a claim Fulham vehemently denied.
The misleading text was quickly removed but Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers was forced to admit he was tracking Dempsey.
It is understood Fulham want at least £10 million for the US international.
Dempsey’s omission from Jol’s squad comes just hours after Liverpool accepted a bid from West Ham to take striker Andy Carroll on a season-long loan, with a view to a permanent deal.
