St James’ Park side line up move for FC Twente defender.
Newcastle are ramping up their bid to sign FC Twente defender Douglas Texeira.
The Brazilian centre-back has one year to run on his current deal, and Newcastle are believed to have offered £4million for his services.
The North East club have laid down a £40,000-a-week package to lure the 24-year-old to St James’ Park.

Last summer Alan Pardew did some great bits of business to help beef up his St James’ Park squad on a relatively strict budget that was far reduced from the sums owner Mike Ashley had reaped through player sales. Thus far this term the Magpies have only managed two senior signings in the form of talented French midfielder Romain Amalfitano and Coventry City teenager Gael Bigirimana. Now the Newcastle United boss is looking to finally land a long term defensive target.
Brazilian born centre back Douglas will help add some much needed strength in depth at the heart of the Newcastle United defence, the current options being Fabicio Coloccini, Michael Wiliamson and Steven Taylor.
Douglas has been a mainstay of the FC Twente side for a few seasons now and is apparently set to leave the Eredivisie side this summer, Steve McClaren having already lost another Newcastle United target, Luuk De Jong, to Borussia Monchengladbach.
