Bernabeu side ready to call off pursuit of White Hart Lane midfielder.
Mourinho patience running thin as Real told to up bid for Modric after Spurs reject £38m bid
Tottenham have rejected Real Madrid’s latest £38million offer for Luka Modric as the transfer saga threatens to drag into the new season.
And the Bernabeu club are now threatening to completely pull their interest in the wantaway midfielder as frustration grows at Spurs’ hardline negotiation tactics.
Modric is one of Jose Mourinho’s primary transfer targets this summer and the Spanish giant’s have already seen several bids turned down by the White Hart Lane club.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is playing a dangerous game. Luka Modric’s behaviour this summer has seemingly upset the North London club, with the Croatian failing to return to pre-season activities, but if the White Hart Lane side are not careful they may find themselves stuck with an unhappy player.
£38m seems a fairly decent offer for the 26 year old and it would appear sensible that Tottenham sell the talented midfielder to a non-Premier League side so as to avoid improving their opposition.
Real Madrid have upped their bid on more than one occasion and Jose Mourinho may well elect to give up his advances for Modric rather than continue to increase his offer. After all it’s not as if the Bernabeu side are not inundated with central midfield options, indeed Luka Modric may struggle to garner a regular first team spot at the La Liga giants.
As it stands Modric would have to challenge the likes of Mesut Ozil, Xabi Alonso, Kaka, Nuri Sahin and Esteban Granero and there will be a limit to the amount Mourinho is willing to fork out for the Tottenham man.
