White Hart Lane boss keen on Stamford Bridge pair.
Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas is reportedly lining up an ambitious move to sign Chelsea pair Daniel Sturridge and Raul Meireles as he looks to improve his White Hart Lane squad.
Having already brought in Gylfi Sigurdsson and Jan Vertonghen the North London club will make a significant offer in the region of £28m for the Blues duo, a move that will be funded by the likely fee the club is set to receive for wantaway midfielder Luka Modric.
Villas-Boas enjoyed a good relationship with both Chelsea players who may struggle to retain first team spots in the coming season.
29 year old Portuguese international Raul Meireles is a player Villa-Boas knows well having brought the midfielder from Liverpool to West London a year ago. The former FC Porto man may struggle to get a regular start in the Blues midfield given the myriad of options Roberto Di Matteo has to call upon and a move to Tottenham may well appeal to the talented box to box performer.
Another player who could struggle to force his way into a regular starting role is attacker Daniel Sturridge, a player who Villas-Boas showed a lot of faith in during his brief stint in charge of Chelsea. The England international enjoyed a successful season last term but was seemingly not a player that Di Matteo held in such high regard.
Though he had played for much of the campaign prior to the Italian’s arrival, Sturridge found himself out of the Blues starting line-up for both semi-finals encounters with Barcelona as well as the FA Cup and Champions League finals. Andre Villas-Boas is desperate to bring in fresh attacking options and has set his sights on the former Man City man.
Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich will be loathed to sell any of his squad to the club’s former boss but the Russian billionaire may well feel that his squad could need trimming after a big summer spending spree, that shows no sign of abating.
The Stamford Bridge club has spent over £60m on the signings of Hazard, Marko Marin and Oscar and therefore could be open to recouping funds from possible player sales.
