Roma would appear to have stolen a march on Liverpool in the chase for American hotshot Clint Dempsey, ironically enough using the funds made from the sale of their striker Fabio Borini to the Anfield club in order to fund a bid for the 29 year old Texan.
Brendan Rodgers would do well to meet the asking price wanted by the Craven Cottage side as it seems increasingly likely that the West London side will sell Dempsey as he has failed to take part in the club’s pre-season activities, leaving Martin Jol to experiment for the coming season without the United States international.
Though Dempsey is desperate for Champions League football he may well feel the allure of a move to the Stadio Olimpico side too good to turn down. Having spent five and a half years at Fulham the former New England Revolution forward probably feels it is time to make a ‘step-up’.
