Loftus Road and Upton Park side chase White Hart Lane man.
QPR and West Ham in battle to sign Tottenham midfielder Jenas
The Spurs midfielder, who spent last season on loan at Aston Villa, is set to decide between the two Premier League rivals in the next 10 days
QPR and West Ham are locked in a battle to sign Jermaine Jenas from Tottenham, Goal.com has learned.
The two London clubs have both made moves for the former England midfielder, who has been told he is free to leave White Hart Lane by new manager Andre Villas-Boas.
Jenas wants his future sorted out before the start of the new Premier League season and it is increasingly likely he will have a new club by the end of next week.
However, Goal.com understands that it is not yet known whether Jenas will move permanently or on a season-long loan.
Tottenham midfielder Jermaine Jenas has seen his career stagnate at White Hart Lane in recent seasons and if he remains at the North London club he is likely to spend much of his time on the bench and therefore a move, temporary or permanent, would help the former England international to kick-start the 29 year old’s career.
The former Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest man last started a game for Tottenham in April 2011 and new boss Andre Villas-Boas has already set about bringing in new signings and offered a return for some less used players, like Mexican youngster Giovani dos Santos, but Jenas seems to be a player that the Portuguese boss is ready to consider offers for.
QPR have already made some very intelligent signings this summer with Mark Hughes bringing top quality additions like Junior Hoilett, Robert Green, Andy Johnson and Park-Ji Sung and a move for Jenas would offer more strength in depth in a Loftus Road midfield that will be without the suspended Joey Barton, who has to serve a 12 match ban for his meltdown at Man City.
West Ham boss Sam Allardyce has also been effective during the transfer window, bringing defensive reinforcements in the form of George McCartney and James Collins a new keeper in Jussi Jaaskelainen and Mali attacker Modibo Maiga.
Jenas may well be tempted by either side especially as neither would result in the upheaval of a long distance move.
