Emirates Stadium side look to bag another Spaniard.

Arsenal are ready to continue their summer spending spree as they prepare a bid for Benfica midfielder Javi Garcia.

The Spanish international has previously been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium and Arsene Wenger’s pursuit of a midfield ‘enforcer’ has once again led him to the 25 year old former Real Madrid man.

The Gunners boss has already secured a trio of impressive signings thus far this summer with the captures of Lukas Podolski, Olivier Giroud and Santi Cazorla helping to improve Arsenal’s attack. Now Wenger will look to beef up his midfield’s ‘soft-centre’.

Wenger had been looking to sign Rennes defensive midfielder Yann M’Vila and discussions to do had reached a fairly advanced stage before demands made by both the Ligue 1 side and the young French international forced the North London side to bring an end to talks.

Arsenal could well do with a tough tackling presence to help repel the opposition, not least because Alex Song, who is invariably used in just such a role, has evolved into a more complete midfielder. The Cameroonian international is seemingly growing more adept at moving the play forwards and notched a very impressive 14 assists last term.

Javi Garcia has proved a huge success since his move to Portugal three years ago and his consistent displays in the heart of Benfica’s midfield have helped to secure his first senior national team cap.

Garcia has been a virtual ever present in the Benfica side since his £5m move from the Bernabeu, notching up 120 appearances in three seasons.

Arsenal are reportedly ready to make an offer in the region of £12m for the determined midfielder who they hope will help provide protection for their creative talents. Arsene Wenger will look to continue his squad clear-out to help cover some of the funds used to bring in new additions.

Carlos Vela has already left for Real Sociedad and the Arsenal manager will hope to find buyers for the likes of Nicklas Bendtner, Sebastien Squillaci, Marouane Chamakh and Andrei Arshavin.
