Villa close in on Spurs’ Team GB star.
Aston Villa are closing in on the loan signing of Tottenham youngster Danny Rose.
The left-sider is yet to return to training at Spurs after participating in Team GB’s disappointing Olympic campaign but has been told by new head-coach Andre Villas-Boas that he can leave the club on a season-long loan.
Aston Villa lead the chase for Rose, who was sent off for a wild lunge on former teammate Alan Hutton at Villa Park last season, but West Brom are also hopeful of landing the 22-year-old.
The former Leeds United youngster has struggled for Premier League opportunities at White Hart Lane, making just nine top-flight starts in two seasons under former boss Harry Redknapp.
Redknapp was set to send Rose on loan to QPR at the start of the summer but the move collapsed when the 65-year-old wheeler-dealer was sacked and replaced with Villas-Boas.
The Hoops have since signed Manchester United left-back Fabio on loan and are no longer interested in loaning Rose.
The defender has not participated in any matches under Villas-Boas but it is understood that the 34-year-old tactician is happy to keep Benoit Assou-Ekotto and Jan Vertonghen as cover at left-back.
Villa are in the market for more defensive cover after sealing the signing of Ron Vlaar from Feyenoord last week.
