Anfield boss targets Etihad Stadium youngster.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is readying a move for highly regarded Man City striker John Guidetti as he looks to beef up his Anfield attack.

The Swedish international spent last term on loan at Feyenoord where he proved a massive success, netting 20 goals in 23 matches for the Eredivisie side. The 20 year old has since returned to the Etihad Stadium but faces a very tough fight to secure a spot in Roberto Mancini’s first team plans.

The Italian has a fair number of strikers to call upon; most notably Sergio Aguero, Mario Balotelli, Carlos Tevez and Edin Dzeko, and therefore Guidetti has reportedly been to secure a move away from Man City either on a permanent or temporary basis.

Thus far the sum total of Guidetti’s first team action for Man City has come in the form of one Carling Cup start almost two years ago and the Swede is keen to secure first team football having matured during his stint in Holland last season.

Brendan Rodgers does not have a surfeit of attacking options at Liverpool and is said to be an admirer of the Stockholm born instinctive finisher and is interested in any deal that would see the youngster move to the club, be that a season long loan deal or a move on a permanent basis.

A number of sides are said to be interested in Guidetti with Lazio thought to have already made an approach for the striker, if Mancini is looking to loan out the marksman he may prefer that such a move was to a fellow Premier League side so as to make it easier to keep track of the Man City starlet’s progress.
