Rodgers admits Liverpool need new faces.Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has admitted that the Anfield outfit need to sign ‘a number’ of new players before the end of the August transfer window.
Speaking ahead of Thursday Europa League qualifier, the former Swansea boss told the BBC: “We need to improve the squad, there is no question about that. But it is a little bit more complex than many people realise.
“The intention is to bring in a few more players yet. I would love them to be in here sooner rather than later. But the most important thing is that they are here by the end of August. Then we know the group we are working with through until January at least.
“I know I need to bring in a number of players, just to replace the ones that have left. But this is a club that people want to be at, so hopefully a number of those will come in over the next couple of weeks.”
So just who is on Rodgers’ shopping list this summer?
5. Adam Johnson
The Manchester City winger is not happy being a benchwarmer at Eastlands and is likely to leave the Premier League Champions this summer. Boss Roberto Mancini has reportedly grown frustrated at Johnson’s inability to fulfil his obvious potential and has been left annoyed by suggestions that he is to blame for the former Middlesborough man’s failure to make England Euro 2012 squad. The Italian will now allow the 25-year-old to leave the club in a cut-price deal. Johnson, who contract at the Etihad runs until 2015, could be used as a makeweight in a potential City deal for Liverpool centre-half Daniel Agger.
