Emirates Stadium boss keen on Benfica forward.
Portuguese source A Bola believe that Arsenal are challenging Inter Milan in the race for highly regarded Benfica youngster Rodrigo Moreno.
The Brazilian born Spanish Under 21 international has had a good season at the Estaidio da Luz, scoring 15 goals in all competitions and sparking speculation of interest from a number of Europe’s ‘elite’ but any interest Arsene Wenger would have would surely have been reduced following his successful summer acquisitions.
With Olivier Giroud and Lukas Podolski arriving at the Emirates Stadium and Robin Van Persie still at the club there seems less of a need to bring in further attacking options. Clearly even if Arsenal were to lose their mercurial skipper the Benfica youngster would never be considered a replacement.
Rodrigo’s previous spell in England, on loan at Bolton, didn’t go all that well for the Rio born youngster, who managed just one goal from his 20 appearances for the Reebok Stadium side. It is fair to say though that the 21 year old has greatly improved and matured over the past 18 months.
The speedy Benfica attacker can also play in a wide role but similarly Arsenal have more than enough options on both flanks so again it’s hard to see where Rodrigo would fit in, unless of course Arsene Wenger was so convinced of the former Real Madrid youth team player’s potential that he would seek to sign the player even if there was no immediate need to improve his current squad.
