It will be ‘impossible to negotiate’ for Neymar, says Alvaro.
Santos president Luis Alvaro believes Neymar can now be deemed ‘priceless’ following Lucas Moura’s £35m switch to PSG.
Teenager Lucas agreed to join the mega-rich Parisiens from Sao Paulo on Wednesday, while Brazil international teammate Neymar has been linked with his own mega-buck move to Europe.
But Alvaro is convinced that Neymar is worth far more than Lucas and that it is now impossible to put a price on the 20-year-old forward.
“I am adamant in saying that Neymar is priceless,” Alvaro is quoted as saying by ESPN. “Millions and millions of euro, dollars and reais could not pay for him. He is a unique player, he’s distinguished, he is the great idol of Brazilian football, for whom it is impossible to negotiate for.
“I also understand that the amount spent for Lucas is deserved. Both are players who represent a new stage of Brazilian football. Along with [Leandro] Damiao, they are impressing the world.”
Neymar signed a new contract with Santos in December 2011, which includes a £57m buy-out clause. La Liga giants Real Madrid and Barcelona are both said to be interested in the youngster but Santos are reportedly determined to keep Neymar until after the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
“I do not regret anything,” Alvaro said. “On the contrary, I am even more convinced that the service paid to the history of Santos is priceless. We are seeing the affection of the fans, how important it was for the young fans to see Neymar remain at the (Vila) Belmiro. I am privileged to have secured Neymar until 2014, at the end of his contract.”
Alvaro also admitted he was delighted his Santos side would now longer have to face Lucas in Brazilian domestic football.
“Sao Paulo has lost a player who always took great risks against Santos. His trip to Europe is a relief.”
