Fergie has ‘no gut feeling’ about RVP deal.
Sir Alex Ferguson has admitted that Manchester United’s attempts to sign Arsenal’s Robin van Persie have stalled
The Gunners skipper has just 11 months left on his contract at the Emirates Stadium and has publicly refused to sign a new deal.
Manchester United, Manchester City and Juventus have all seen bids rejected for the Netherlands striker, 29, but City and Juve have since pulled out of the race leaving the Old Trafford club as front runners.
“We’ve made a bid, they [Arsenal] have been trying to negotiate with other clubs,” United manager Ferguson told the BBC.
“I don’t have a gut feeling about it. We can’t get a breakthrough with Arsenal.”
Ferguson did not say if United had increased their original offer but it is understood that Arsenal are holding out for in excess of £20m for Van Persie, who scored 30 Premier League goals last season.
“I don’t know what Arsenal’s thoughts are because they’re not giving anything away,” continued the Scot.
“It’s difficult to say why they’re operating this way. I can’t give you any more information. We just have to persevere.
“We are trying our best and hopefully it will come our way but there’s no progress at this moment in time.”
