Anfield forward set to make move to hometown club.
Craig Bellamy is set to have a medical at Cardiff City after agreeing to take a significant pay cut to complete a move from Liverpool.
Bellamy, 33, is understood to have accepted a deal worth £35,000-a-week, a huge drop from the £90,000-a-week salary he was earning at Anfield.
Cardiff are also offering a £1 million promotion bonus if Bellamy helps them to the Premier League at the end of this coming season. Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers confirmed on Wednesday that he had agreed to let Bellamy talk to the Bluebirds.
Well that’s an incentive to give it your all! Clearly the drop in salary will have been an issue for Welsh international Craig Bellamy but the fillip of a £1m bonus for securing promotion to the top tier will clearly push the Liverpool man to push himself that little bit further. One wonders what his fellow Cardiff City team-mates will garner from a potential promotion? Presumably nowhere near that sum.
Brendan Rodgers appears keen to conduct a clear-out of Liverpool’s elder statesman, with Dirk Kuyt and Maxi Rodriguez already having left Anfield.
Bellamy enjoyed a fairly successful first season back at Liverpool last term, netting nine goals in all competitions despite being only a bit part player. A move to his hometown club should help garner regular first team football and Malky Mackay will hope that the former Newcastle United and West Ham man will push his side into the top tier after an absence of 40 years.
