Hammers announce Alou Diarra transfer.
West Ham have confirmed the signing of Marseilles midfielder Alou Diarra, 31, on a three-year deal.
The French international arrives at Upton Park for an undisclosed fee.
Diarra told West Ham’s official website: “I am very happy to be here at West Ham – everything is signed now which is good and I am excited to be here at this club and to be playing for them in the Premier League.
“I know a lot about West Ham as a club and when I knew they were interested in signing me, I was very happy and knew it would be a good choice for me.
“We are a Premier League club and I know of players who were here before like Paolo Di Canio and Scott Parker, but of the players now in the team, I know Guy [Demel], Mo [Diame] and of course, Modibo Maiga, who played in the French league last year.”
The Hammers released statement on Friday lunchtime confirming that a major ‘international star’ was set to sign, prompting speculation that Liverpool’s Carroll has conducted a abrupt u-turn and decided to join Sam Allardyce’s men.
But instead it is Diarra, who starred for France at Euro 2012, who joins the newly-promoted London outfit.
The lanky 6’3″ enforcer stood in for the injured Yann M’Vila in Poland and Ukraine and impressed against England in Les Bleus’ opening group match.
Diarra only joined Marseilles from Bordeaux last summer but the French outfit were keen to get his considerable wages off their books.
