Anfield side chase Benfica forward.
Liverpool could continue their summer recruitment drive with a move for Benfica midfielder Nolito.
New Anfield manager Brendan Rodgers will be well aware of the former Barcelona star after modelling his former club Swansea’s style on the Catalan side and spending time studying their training sessions.
The 25-year-old has just spent his first season away from Barca at the Portuguese club but has not enjoyed the experience and is desperate to leave, according to newspaper Record.
Liverpool could well do with recruiting further attacking additions this summer if they are to return to the upper reaches of the Premier League. Last term the Merseyside club managed just 47 goals all season and the capture of Italian Fabio Borini is a move in the right direction to correct this problem but perhaps Benfica man Nolito can also add strength in depth in the final third.
Brendan Rodgers appears open to the possibility of an Andy Carroll exit and such a departure would leave Liverpool even lighter in terms of striking options.
Nolito is apparently unhappy at Benfica but this didn’t stop the adaptable attacker from 15 goals in his debut season last term, helping the Lisbon side to within touching distance of FC Porto at the top of the Primeira Liga.
The former Barcelona may well be a tad lightweight but could still make an impact in the English top tier and is able to play either as an orthodox striker or perhaps more usefully out on the flank.
Brendan Rodgers may need just such a player having opted to allow both Dirk Kuyt and Maxi Rodriguez to leave Liverpool this summer.
