Italians close in on Porto star.
Tottenham and Chelsea appear to have missed out on Porto left-sider Alvaro Pereira, with Napoli closing in on a deal for Uruguayan.
Chelsea were linked with the wing-back last summer, when former Porto boss Andre Villas-Boas was in charge at Stamford Bridge.
The Portuguese tactician is now head-coach at Spurs and was understood to have instructed his new employers to make enquiries about the 26-year-old, who can play both left-back and on the wing.
But it is understood that Napoli are now close to completing a deal for Pereira, after missing out on Italy left-back Federico Balzaretti who has joined Roma, reports Corriere dello Sport.
The Uruguay international’s agent admitted last month that his client was likely to be on the move this summer but it is understood that only the Serie A club have matched Porto’s £12m asking price.
Chelsea were willing to pay as much as £20m for Pereira last summer but their interest has cooled following Villas-Boas’ departure and the emergence of Team GB star Ryan Bertrand.
