Black Cats to land stiker.
Sunderland are confident of finalising a deal for free agent Louis Saha in time for the start of the new Premier League season, reports the Daily Mirror.
The 33-year-old is without a club since being released by Spurs last month but Sunderland boss Martin O’Neill is close to concluding a £40,000-a-week deal with the forward.
Saha has been plagued by injuries during his career but showed glimpses of form during his six months at White Hart Lane, scoring against Newcastle and Arsenal, and forming a good partnership with Emmanuel Adebayor.
The journeyman striker has also played for Fulham and Manchester United and is set to be Sunderland’s second signing of the summer.
O’Neill remains interested in Wolves striker Steven Fletcher but is reluctant to meet Wanderers’ £15m asking price for the Scot.
The signing of Saha will relieve the pressure on key forward Stephane Sessegnon ahead of the new Premier League campaign, after O’Neill lost strikers Asamoah Gyan and Niklas Bendtner over the summer.
