White Hart Lane transfer saga edging towards inevitable conclusion.
The end is nigh.
It would appear that after much deliberation and discussion Croatian international Luka Modric is nearer to completing his long awaited move to Real Madrid. The La Liga side have lodged several unsuccessful bids but now that the 26 year old is on his way to enter talks with the Spanish giants one would imagine that a fee has been more or less agreed, otherwise the schemer may well be boarding a flight for no apparent reason.
Daniel Levy may well be ready to relent on his initial demand for £35m and settle for a fee somewhere between his valuation of the talented midfielder and Real Madrid’s most recent bid. Perhaps Andre Villas-Boas pushed for the deal to be completed so that he would have time to bring in an effective replacement.
Though Modric is clearly a player who will be missed the North London side would not want to be stuck with a player who had so clearly stated his intention to leave and the blow of losing the former Dinamo Zagreb will at least be partially softened by the fact that Welsh winger Gareth Bale signed a new long term contract this summer.
Indeed Tottenham have also brought in two quality additions this summer in Jan Vertonghen and Gylfi Sigurdsson and the funds raised from the sale of Modric could then be handily used to bring in another creative midfielder as Villas-Boas looks to mount another top four challenge.
